A Name

Today we have named Baby Boy Church. Many of you know that we like to name our kids after family (ancestors) or friends who have meant a lot to us who have passed away. So after much thought and deliberation, this is the name we are using:

Gager (gay-jur) Elijah Church

Gager is the last name of his 5th Great Grandfather on the Church side (William Church's mother's father's name was Samuel Gager) of the family.
Elijah is the first name of his 4th Great Uncle on the Scoville side, which is my Grandfather Church's mother's maiden name. Plus Elijah is just a strong name considering his role as a prophet in the Bible.

Did everyone follow that?
We had a lot of names and have called him by many of them the last 24 hours. However, when holding him and talking to him these are the two names that we felt impressed to give him. Our hope is that through his name he will always be linked to his family (ancestors).

We are assuming that throughout his life many people will call him Gage. However, we will refer to him as Gager as that will be his name. But everyone gets nicknames and Gage will probably be one that sticks.

Baby Boy Church

Today we went to the hospital at 12 midnight because Kaytee was having labor pains, for 9 hrs, and also because her doctor wanted to induce her. Our plan was for Kaytee to deliver this baby versus having another c-section. The doctor was supportive but also cautious as he was afraid after two c-sections this delivery might become an emergency situation that would result in an emergency c-section. So, we showed up at the appointed time of midnight and got checked in. The nurse stated that she was in the beginning stages of labor but that she had not really progressed beyond the 1 cm. So they started her on pitocin to help the progression. So at 1am the pitocin drip began. Kaytee slept off and on for a couple hours and then woke up at 5:30am when her water broke. The nurse returned and announced that her water had broken and that she was now measuring 4 cm. At the same time, her contractions were getting worse. At 7:30am the anesthesiologist came in and gave her her epidural. At 7:45am Kaytee's doctor came in to brief her on the situation and explain that she was only measuring about 4 cm and that the expectation was that she would progress by about 1 cm per hour. He explained that in 6 hours, if she had not reached the 10 cm mark, he would be forced to perform a c-section in order to avoid any potential damage that might be caused, by the contractions, to her c-section scar. He also asked the nurse to put a monitor on Kaytee's scar to watch for rupture then the doctor left. About 5 minutes later the nurse was getting ready to place the monitor on Kaytee and told Kaytee that she was going to check her progress before placing the monitor. Upon checking Kaytee's progress she says, "oh my! you are there!". I turned to her and said, "By there, you mean ready to deliver this baby?" She looks at me and says, "yes". She hurriedly gets another nurse and they started to get the room ready while another nurse goes to get Kaytee's doctor before he goes into surgery. Then before I know they have Kaytee doing a few pushes. They then tell her to hold it. They don't want her to do anymore pushing. Then Kaytee's doctor walks in and gets dressed and says, "Ok Kaytee, just a few more pushes." Kaytee pushes once and voila at 8:17am the doctor is holding a little baby boy.
So at 8:17am Baby Boy Church was born. He weighed 7 lbs even and was 20 inches long. By the way the nurse totally stole my moment. I was supposed to announce that the baby was either a boy or a girl. I waited almost 10 months to do it. But the stupid nurse who waited all of a couple minutes took it away by turning to Kaytee and saying, "It's a boy!" I am still ticked off about it, so much for having a part in this whole thing.
So, if any of you readers are labor and deliver nurses, keep you mouths shut and let the father have his moment.

Big brother and sister are so excited!

This was the best part for Kaytee...being able to hold our new baby right after he was born.  He stayed right with her for the first hour (the hospital calls it Kangaroo Care).

4 going on 14

Has it really been 4 years?  I can't believe my little girl is so big already.  She has been looking forward to this birthday for 9 months, ever since we told her we would be having a new baby.  Laralee was very disappointed that the bat didn't come on her birthday. (so was I)  Mama and Papa came to visit for the weekend and we celebrated the whole time.  I think we sang Happy Birthday at least 4 different times for her. And she was able to talk to Grandma and Grandpa Thompson while she opened her gift.  The look on her face when she saw the Rapunzel dress was great!

I think Mama and Papa had to much fun this weekend!
